Of cause the entire product will never be open source - it's a business after all :)
But don't judge Microsoft on the past, now that NAV/365 has moved to the A-List the attention and resources assigned to NAV/365 is nothing like we have been used to.

You are right but imagine what we could do if we had access to the platform itself. At a conference I heard one of the persons responsible for open-sourcing .NET and what he said was that apart from a lot of other things they really profited from the amount of fixes for non-critical but annoying bugs that were done by developers outside MS. And I would imagine it would be the same with NAV: How many times were you annoyed with something but couldn't change it and MS was (rightfully) working on other things? How many times did you propose something that seemed quite easy on connect or Yammer and got no reaction at all? I'd absolutely love to have a Git repo and start sending pull requests for seemingly easy fixes. But I guess that won't be happening in the foreseeable future :)
