In this video, Erik shares his experience attending DynamicsCon LIVE 2022, a community-driven conference held in San Antonio, Texas. The event brought together members of the Dynamics ecosystem — covering Business Central, GP, CE, F&O, and Power Platform — for two and a half days of sessions, networking, and fun. Erik gives us a tour of the event, chats with organizer Molly from the Dynamics User Group (DUG), and shares his overall impressions of the conference.

Arriving in San Antonio

Erik kicks things off from San Antonio, Texas, where he’s arrived to attend DynamicsCon LIVE — a Dynamics conference covering Business Central, GP, and the broader Dynamics 365 ecosystem. While he wasn’t entirely sure how many people would be attending, he was excited to dive in and see what the event had to offer.

What Is DynamicsCon LIVE?

Erik tracked down Molly Fuschial from the Dynamics User Group (DUG) — the hosting organization behind DynamicsCon LIVE — for an impromptu walking interview to learn more about the event and the community behind it.

As Molly explained, DynamicsCon LIVE is a community event centered around user members. The conference featured two and a half days of content presented by experts in the space, including MVPs and other community leaders. Beyond the sessions, the event also served as a way to highlight the many free ways community members can get involved with DUG.

Understanding the Dynamics User Group (DUG)

Erik and Molly dove into what the Dynamics User Group actually is, since the term “user group” can be used in many different contexts. DUG — formally the Dynamics User Group — is the overarching community. If you participate in any of their programs, such as attending the conference, you’re a member of the user group.

Within DUG, there are also DUG Meetups, which are local user groups. These are where the traditional “user group” concept originated. Members can find local meetups — or even start their own — by visiting dynamicsusergroup.com and clicking on the meetups section.

Molly clarified that DynamicsCon LIVE itself is not a meetup — it’s a full conference. DUG also runs virtual events in addition to the in-person conferences.

The Event by the Numbers

The conference attracted 400 attendees. Of that number, 43 were user members, with the rest made up of partners and Microsoft members. The event featured multiple tracks covering:

  • Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE)
  • Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O)
  • Dynamics GP
  • Power Platform

As Molly noted, Power Platform is something that touches all of the tracks — “I think that’s a little bit of all of us.”

Sessions and Content

While the video focused primarily on the community and social aspects of the event, Erik also captured glimpses of the sessions taking place. One session covered fixed assets in Business Central, discussing custom asset types, construction-in-progress (CIP) scenarios common in industries like oilfield services, and how Business Central handles asset acquisition, appreciation, write-downs, and depreciation once assets are put into use.

Looking Ahead

Molly shared the upcoming schedule for DUG events:

  • Next virtual event: March 15, 2023
  • Next in-person DynamicsCon LIVE: Scottsdale, Arizona

Erik’s Final Impressions

Back in his home studio, Erik reflected on the experience. He thanked Molly for being a great sport during their outdoor walking interview and shared his genuine enthusiasm for the event. The conference was a wonderful mix of serious business — with many excellent sessions and speakers — and genuine fun. Erik praised the attendees and speakers alike for making it a memorable event and expressed excitement about attending the next DynamicsCon LIVE in Scottsdale, Arizona.
