Advanced Financial Reporting
Cross-Company Reporting
Are you juggling financial data across multiple companies in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central? The Advanced Financial Reporting App makes it simple to consolidate all of that information into a single, clear financial report. With just a few clicks, you can create a column-by-column comparison for each company—no complicated workarounds required. Here’s how:
1. Define Your Columns with Company Information
In the Advanced Financial Reporting App, columns can represent the different dimensions of your data—in this case, your different companies. Simply open the app and create a new Column Definition. Each column can then be linked to a specific company within your Business Central environment:
- Go to Column Definitions and select New.
- Give your column set a descriptive name (e.g., “Companies”).
- For Column 1, choose a company from the Company dropdown (e.g., “Cronus A”).
- Repeat the process for each additional column, selecting the corresponding companies (e.g., “Cronus B,” “Cronus C,” “Cronus D”).
2. Define Your Rows with Company Information
In the Advanced Financial Reporting App, rows can also represent the different dimensions of your data—in this case, your different companies.
Go to Row Definitions and:
- For a given row, choose a company from the Company dropdown (e.g., “Cronus A”).
- Repeat the process for each additional row, selecting the corresponding companies (e.g., “Cronus B,” “Cronus C,” “Cronus D”).
3. Combine Rows and Columns
Financial reports in Business Central follow a structure of Rows and Columns:
- Rows define the accounts or calculations you want to display (e.g., Cash, Revenues, Expenses).
- Columns specify the parameters or filters for each segment (e.g., date ranges or companies).
Once you’ve created a row definition (or used an existing one), you can combine it with your new multi-company column set:
- Open an existing financial report or create a new one.
- In the Report Setup, select the Row Definition you want to use.
- Change the Column Definition to the new one you just created (e.g., “Companies”).
4. Generate Your Cross-Company Report
Run the report, and you’ll see all your companies side by side—each column pulling accurate numbers from a different company in real-time. Instantly compare performance across multiple entities without any manual consolidation.
