Advanced Financial Reporting

Use Non-financial Data

Bring your KPIs and custom metrics into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with the Advanced Financial Reporting app. Whether you need to track sales of a specific item, production volume per week, project completions, or any other critical metric, this powerful tool makes it easy to include non-financial values directly in your financial reports.

Go Beyond Traditional Accounting Measures

Traditionally, financial reports only track numbers from your General Ledger. With Advanced Financial Reporting, you can extend this idea to any piece of data within Business Central—no complicated Excel manipulations required.

  • Spotlight on KPIs: Monitor key performance indicators—like sales volume of a specific product or how many credit memos you’ve issued—right alongside your usual revenue and expense lines.
  • Fully Customizable: Grab data from anywhere in your system. Track inventory levels, project completions, minimum or maximum invoice values, average transaction sizes, and more.
  • Automated Updates: Filter and apply date ranges to keep your reports always in sync with Business Central’s real-time data.

Build Flexible, Dynamic Reports

A report in Advanced Financial Reporting is built in two parts:

  1. Rows: Define each line you want to track (like “Conference Tables Sold” or “Average Invoice Size”).
  2. Columns: Choose how you want to slice and dice the data (e.g., current month, last month, last year, or cross-company views).

Combine your row definitions with your column definitions to create a fully customizable report—one that tracks exactly what you need without juggling multiple spreadsheets.

How It Works

  1. Create or Edit a Row Definition

    • Assign it a unique name and specify that it’s an Indicator row, click on the No in the indicator column to open the indicator editor.
  2. Select Your Data Source

    • Choose from built-in options like Sum, Count, Min/Max, or even a Custom calculation built by a developer.
  3. Apply Filters

    • Narrow results by posting date, item number, entry type, or any other dimension in Business Central.
  4. Preview and Validate

    • Test your new indicator on the spot—preview calculated results and check performance metrics to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  5. Integrate into Your Reports

    • View the final number in real time, across multiple companies if needed, letting you compare apples to apples in a single, cohesive dashboard.
